Workshop

Track workshop work orders, material requests, tools, and the items and materials workshop work is built from.

On this page 4

Workshop tracks repair and servicing work carried out in a workshop, most often work raised against a container from Container Depot. A work order groups the items of work to be done; a material request moves materials into the workshop to carry it out; tools and workshops are the equipment and facility records behind that work.

What you can do

  • Look up workshop work orders and the items on them. See Work Orders.
  • Look up the jobs generated from work orders. See Jobs.
  • Look up material requests moving stock into a workshop. See Material Requests.
  • Register the items — with their materials and labor — that workshop work is built from. See Items.
  • Register the products used as workshop materials. See Materials.
  • Look up the assets tracked as workshop tools. See Tools.
  • Register workshop facilities, each tied to a warehouse. See Workshops.

How a work order is created

A workshop work order is normally created from an approved Container Depot repair estimate, not from the Workshop module itself — see Work Orders for what the Workshop module's own screens show once that happens.

Access and permissions

You need a signed-in OCTO Ops account with a verified email address, an active membership in the selected organization, and the Workshop module enabled for that organization.

Workshop is not governed by permission groups. Any member of an organization with the Workshop module enabled can open and use every working Workshop screen. There is no separate View, Create, Edit, or Delete permission for Workshop, and no distinction between your own records and everyone else's.

Current limitations

  • Work orders cannot currently be created, closed, or have material usage recorded from any Workshop screen. See Work Orders.
  • Material requests cannot currently be created from any Workshop screen. See Material Requests.
  • Jobs and Tools are read-only lists with no create, show, or edit screen. See Jobs and Tools.
  • Invoices appears in the navigation but has no screens behind it in this version. See Invoices.
