Brands

Keep a list of product brands and see which products use each one.

On this page 8

A brand is a named maker or label that products can belong to, such as Pfizer or GSK. Keeping brands as a list means a brand is spelled the same way on every product, and you can see at a glance which products use it.

Before you start

You need Brands › View to open the list and a brand's profile, Create to add a brand, Edit to change one, and Delete to remove one. "Own" means brands you created. Brands is the only Products submodule that offers Delete; Products, Price groups and Attributes offer View, Create and Edit only.

The Brands list

Open Products > Brands.

Column Notes
Name The brand's name. Select it to open the brand's profile.
Code The brand's code, if you entered one.
Products How many products use the brand.
Active Whether the brand can be chosen for new products.

Create a brand

  1. From the Brands list, select the Create icon.
  2. Enter a Brand name.
  3. Optionally enter a Code and a Description.
  4. Leave Active on, unless you are adding a brand you do not want chosen yet.
  5. Select Create brand.
Field Required What to enter
Brand name Yes Must be unique in your organization. Capital letters and spaces around the name are ignored, so "pfizer " and "Pfizer" are the same brand.
Code No Up to 50 characters.
Description No Free text.
Active No Inactive brands stay on the products that have them but can't be chosen for new ones.

You see a toast reading "Brand created." and land on the new brand's profile.

The brand profile

The left card shows the name, code, status, number of products, description, and when the brand was created and last updated. The Products card lists the products that use the brand, with their SKU and name; select a product to open it. You only see the products you are allowed to view.

Edit a brand

Open the brand's profile and use the toolbar Edit action. The form is the same as Create, pre-filled. Renaming a brand also updates the brand name shown on every product that uses it.

Deactivate or delete a brand

To stop a brand being chosen for new products, edit it and switch Active off. Products that already have the brand keep it.

To remove a brand, open its profile and use the toolbar Delete action. A brand that products still use can't be deleted; deactivate it instead.

Create brands from existing brand names

Products created before the Brands list may have a brand typed in as plain text. Owners and Admins who also have Brands › Create see a Create brands from brand names button above the Brands list. It opens a preview, one row per brand, showing how many products use it and whether it will be created or linked to a brand that already exists. Capital letters and spaces around the name are ignored, so "pfizer " and "Pfizer" are one row, and the spelling most products use becomes the brand's name.

Select Create brands and link products to confirm. Brands that don't exist are created, and every listed product is linked to its brand and shows the brand's name. You land on the Brands list with a toast saying how many brands were created and products linked.

You can run it again safely: linked products drop out of the preview, so nothing is created twice. When every product with a brand name is linked, the page says so. Products that belong to 3PL customers are never changed.

This is an organization-wide action: it links every non-3PL product, whatever products you personally are allowed to view.

Errors you may see

  • "A brand name is longer than 255 characters. Shorten it on its products, then try again." — nothing was created or linked; shorten the over-long name on its products and run it again.

  • "A brand with this name already exists." — another brand has the same name, ignoring capitals and spaces.

  • "This brand is used by N products. Deactivate it instead." — the brand can't be deleted while N products use it.
