Containers

Search the container registry, register containers, and record condition changes.

On this page 7

The Containers registry holds every container OCTO Ops knows about — whether it's currently in your yard or not — along with its current condition and basic specifications.

Before you start

Access is controlled by permission:

  • View — see the Containers list and open a container's profile (all records, or only your own).
  • Create — register a new container.
  • Edit — change a container's details, and update its condition.
Note

The Delete permission for Containers has no effect: there is no way to delete a container from the application — once registered, a container stays in the registry.

The Containers list

Open Container Depot > Containers. Columns:

Column Notes
Number Links to the container's profile
MLO
In stock Yes/No
Last in date
Last out date
Status Shows "-" when not set

The list sorts by Number, descending, by default. Use the search box to find a container, and the page size control to show 10, 25 (the default), 50, 100, 150, or all rows. Your search, sort, and page size are remembered the next time you open the list.

The create icon opens Add Container. There are no Actions menu items on this list.

Register a container

  1. Select the create icon to open Add Container.
  2. Enter the Container number (required).
  3. Optionally choose the MLO, enter the Manufacture date, choose the ISO type, and enter Size type and Gross weight.
  4. Choose Ventilation — Yes or No (defaults to Yes).
  5. If Ventilation is Yes, choose V — 2V, 4V, or Sp V (defaults to 2V). This field is unavailable while Ventilation is No.
  6. Optionally enter Description/Notes.
  7. Select Create container.

A container number must be unique. If it isn't, the form shows the error under Container number along with a toast: "Check your records before submitting this form again." Any other failure shows "Something went wrong!" with "A record already exists with this number. Please retry with a different number." — this generic text is shown for any failure while saving, not only a duplicate number.

A new container always starts not in stock, regardless of anything entered on this form — a container only becomes in stock through inward and outward activity. On success, a toast confirms "Container created successfully" and you're taken to the container's profile.

View a container (the profile)

Open a container from the list. The page heading reads Container: {container number}. The left-hand card shows the container number with an IN STOCK (green) or OUT (amber) label, then its details: MLO, ISO type, current condition (labelled Curr. Condition), Ventilation, V, Manufacture date (year and month for a container registered by import, otherwise the date entered), and Description.

To the right are:

  • Invoices — the Container Depot invoices this container was charged on: ID (opens the invoice), date, value and status.
  • Estimates — its repair estimates: ID (opens the estimate), number of line items, value, approval date, status, and when it was last updated.
  • Work orders — the workshop work orders raised on its inwards: ID (opens the work order), container number, number of tasks and status.
  • History — every record tied to the container, as on the inward profile.

Each card only lists records you have View permission for. Edit the container with the toolbar's Edit icon, and change its condition from the toolbar's Actions menu (Update Condition).

Edit a container

Open the container and select the toolbar's Edit icon. The same fields as registering a container are shown, prefilled, with the same validation and error messages. Select Save changes; a toast confirms "Container updated successfully" and you're returned to the profile.

Note

In stock can't be changed from this form — it only changes through inward and outward activity.

Update a container's condition

  1. Open the container, open the toolbar's Actions menu and select Update Condition.
  2. Container number and Current condition are shown for reference only and can't be changed here.
  3. Choose the New condition.
  4. Optionally enter Description and notes.
  5. Select Update container condition.

A toast confirms "Container condition updated successfully". Any other failure shows "Something went wrong!" with "Check your records before submitting this form again." On success you're returned to the container's profile, where the condition you chose now appears as its Current condition. If the update fails you stay on the form.

Warning

The Description and notes you enter on this screen is not saved. Only the New condition you choose is recorded — keep any explanation of the condition change somewhere else if you need it on record.

Current limitations

  • Containers can't be deleted.
  • The Description and notes field on Update condition is not saved.
