Locations

Locations describe where assets are physically held. They are used by Asset Registry, transfers, reservations, audits, dashboards, and reports and are shared organization master data.

#Supported location types

Choose the type that best describes the place:

• Warehouse
• Store
• Office
• Branch
• Event Site
• Client Site
• Vehicle
• Temporary Holding Area
• Repair Center
• Scrap Yard

#Create a location

1. Open Asset Management > Locations.
2. Select Create Location.
3. Enter a unique code and a clear name.
4. Select the location type.
5. Enter the address when applicable.
6. Add latitude and longitude if your organization records map coordinates.
7. Add a contact person and contact number when the location has an operational contact.
8. Save the location.

Use names that are unambiguous across branches and regions. A code such as CMB-WH-01 is generally more useful than Warehouse 1 when several sites have similar names.

#Find, review, and edit a location

1. Search or sort the location list.
2. Open the location profile to review its type, address, coordinates, and contact information.
3. Select Edit.
4. Update the details and save.

Editing a location changes the shared label shown for records that refer to it. It does not create an asset transfer or a separate movement-history event.

#Use locations safely

• Set an asset's starting location during registration when it is known.
• Use a transfer—not a simple edit—when assets physically move and dispatch/receipt accountability is required.
• Select the location carefully when creating an audit because the in-scope asset list is frozen at audit creation.
• Keep temporary, repair, client, and scrap locations distinct so status and location do not become confused.

#Current limitation

The application API supports location deletion, but the current end-user page does not provide a delete action. Avoid reusing an old location code for a different physical place because historical records may still refer to it.
