Production

Run production in OCTO Ops — compositions (BOM), production orders, jobs, materials and workstations.

On this page 4

Production is the module for manufacturing. A composition (a bill of materials) defines what materials go into a product and what end products come out. A production order is raised against a composition to make a batch, and immediately creates the stock and material requirements behind it. Jobs break an order's batch into individual units of work, and workstations can be linked to a composition to say where that work happens.

What you can do

  • Raise a production order against a composition and generate jobs from it. See Orders.
  • Define a bill of materials — the materials and end products for a batch. See Compositions (BOM).
  • Register the products used as production materials. See Materials.
  • Register workstations and their fields, and link a workstation to a composition. See Workstations.
  • Look up the jobs and cards generated during production. See Jobs and Cards.
  • Set up production lines. See Lines.

Access and permissions

You need a signed-in OCTO Ops account with a verified email address, an active membership in the selected organization, and the Production module enabled for that organization.

Production is not governed by permission groups. Any member of an organization with the Production module enabled can open and use every working Production screen — creating, viewing and editing orders, compositions, materials, workstations, jobs and lines included. There is no separate View, Create, Edit, or Delete permission for Production itself, and no distinction between your own records and everyone else's.

  1. Register your Materials and other products first.
  2. Register your Workstations.
  3. Build your Compositions (BOM), and link a workstation to each one that needs one.
  4. Raise Orders against a composition to produce a batch, and generate Jobs from the order.

Current limitations

  • Material Inventory, Capacity, and Plans appear in the navigation but have no screens behind them in this version. See Material Inventory, Capacity, and Plans.
  • Workbench appears in the navigation but has no working screens either — see Workbench.
  • Cards cannot be created through the application — see Cards.
  • The Create link on the Jobs screen fails to open — jobs are created from a production order's profile instead. See Jobs.
  • There is no edit screen anywhere in this module — not for Orders, Jobs, Cards, Materials, Compositions, Lines, or Workstations.
  • No status options are set up for any Production record, so every Status column and field is normally blank.
  • SAP Business One integration (syncing jobs, or generating jobs and issuing materials from a workstation) is not available in this version.
