Vessels

Maintain the vessel records used on container arrivals, departures, and reservations.

On this page 7

A vessel is the ship associated with a container's arrival or departure. Vessel records are used when registering movements and bookings across Container Depot.

Before you start

You need the View permission for Vessels to see the list and a profile, the Create permission to add one, and the Edit permission to change one.

The Vessels list

Open Container Depot > Vessels. Columns: Code and Name (both link to the vessel's profile), Notes, Status. The list sorts by Name, ascending, by default. The list shows 25 rows at a time by default, with a choice of 10, 25, 50, 100, 150, or all rows. Use the search box to find a vessel. The toolbar shows a create icon; there's no Actions menu.

Create a vessel

  1. From the Vessels list, select the create icon.
  2. Complete the fields below.
  3. Select Create vessel.
Field Required What to enter
Vessel name Yes The vessel's name.
Vessel code Yes A code for the vessel.
Description and notes No Free text.

Vessel name and code must both be unique. The code and name are both saved in uppercase.

On success you see "Vessel created successfully" and land on the vessel's profile. A missing or duplicate name or code shows field-level errors and "Check your records before submitting this form again." Any other failure shows "A record already exists with this name or code. Please retry with different values."

View a vessel (the profile page)

Open a vessel from the list to see its profile, headed Vessel: {name}. The left-hand card shows the code and name, then Code, Status and Notes. To the right are Containers — the inwards that arrived on this vessel (date, which opens the inward; container number; MLO; and whether it's still in stock) — Voyages — the vessel's voyages (date, voyage number, description and status; voyages record no direction, so In/Out is blank) — and Stocks — the containers from this vessel still in the yard (container number, in date, ISO type, the reservation it's held for, if any, and status). Busy cards list the latest 50 records and say how many there are in all.

Edit a vessel

  1. Open the vessel's profile and select the toolbar's Edit icon.
  2. Update the name, code, or description.
  3. Select Save changes.

The same required and unique-name/code rules apply, checked against every other vessel. On success you see "Vessel updated successfully" and return to the profile.

Where vessels are used

Vessels are picked when registering an inward or an outward, and when booking a reservation.

Current limitations

A vessel can't be deleted.
