A profile defines what a control tests: a name, an optional model reference, and any number of groups and items describing the individual measurements to record.
Before you start
Quality is not governed by permission groups. Any member of an organization with the Quality module enabled can open the Profiles list, create a profile, and add groups and items to it.
The Profiles list
Open Quality > Profiles.
| Column | Notes |
|---|---|
| Code | The profile's code. Links to its profile. |
| Name | The profile's name. |
| Model | The profile's model reference, if set. |
Sort defaults to the Code column, ascending. There is no filter beyond the list's own search box.
The toolbar shows a Create icon.
Create a profile
- From the Profiles list, select the Create icon.
- Complete the fields below.
- Select Create profile.
| Field | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Profile ID | No | Leave Auto checked for OCTO Ops to assign the ID, or uncheck it and enter your own. |
| Code | No | Free text. |
| Name | Yes | The profile's name. |
| Model | No | Free text. |
| Description | No | Free text. |
What happens when you save
- A toast confirms "Profile created successfully".
- You're taken to the new profile's profile page.
- On a validation error, field errors are shown inline next to Code and Name, and a warning toast reads "Check your records before submitting this form again."
The profile page
Opening a profile shows its Name, Code, Model (if set), and Description (if set), plus two buttons: New group and New item.
There is no Edit action on this page or anywhere else for a profile — see Current limitations.
Add a group
- From a profile's page, select New group.
- Enter a Name.
- Optionally enter a Code — if left blank, OCTO Ops generates one from the name.
- Optionally enter a Description.
- Select Create group.
A toast confirms "Group created successfully" and you're returned to the parent profile's page. There is no groups list or group profile page — a group only exists as an entry the profile was built with.
Add an item
- From a profile's page, select New item.
- Complete the fields below.
- Select Create item.
| Field | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | The item's name. |
| Field type | No | A numeric field-type code. |
| Width | No | A number. |
| Theoretical expected value | No | Free text. |
| Tolerance (upper) | No | Free text. |
| Tolerance (lower) | No | Free text. |
| Expression | No | Free text. |
| Mandatory | No | Check if this item must be recorded. |
| Pass required | No | Check if this item must pass for the control to pass. |
| Description | No | Free text. |
A toast confirms "Item created successfully" and you're returned to the parent profile's page. As with groups, there is no items list or item profile page separate from the parent profile.
Current limitations
- There is no edit screen for a profile once it's created — its Name, Code, Model, and Description can't be changed from the UI after creation.
- There is no Delete control for profiles, groups, or items.
- Groups and items have no list or profile screens of their own; they can only be added from the parent profile's page.
