Orders

Raise a production order against a composition to produce a batch, and generate jobs from it.

On this page 6

A production order records a batch you're producing against a composition (BOM). Saving one is a real production event, not a draft — see the callout below.

Before you start

  • Production is not governed by permission groups. Any member of an organization with the Production module enabled can create, view, and generate jobs for production orders.
  • Create the composition you're producing against first — it's the one required field on the order.

The Orders list

Open Production > Orders.

Column Notes
ID The order's custom ID. Links to its profile.
Name The order's name, or "-" if not set.
Date The order date, or "-" if not set.
Status Normally "-" — see Current limitations.

Sort defaults to the ID column, newest first. The toolbar shows a Create icon.

Create a production order

  1. From the list, select the Create icon.
  2. Leave Auto checked to let OCTO Ops assign the Order ID, or uncheck it and type your own.
  3. Optionally enter a Name.
  4. Choose the Composition (BOM) you're producing against.
  5. Optionally adjust the Date (defaults to today) and Batch (pre-filled with the next batch number, but editable).
  6. Optionally enter a Description.
  7. Select Create order.
Field Required What to enter
Order ID No Leave Auto checked, or uncheck it and type your own.
Name No The order's name.
Composition (BOM) Yes The bill of materials you're producing against.
Date No Defaults to today.
Batch No Pre-filled with the next batch number; you can change it.
Description No Free text.
Important

Creating a production order immediately creates real records — there is no separate confirm or release step. As soon as you save: for every end product on the composition, OCTO Ops creates one stock record per unit of quantity for the batch (with its own serial number and barcode); and for every material on the composition, OCTO Ops creates a material requirement row recording how much of it this order needs. Double check the Composition (BOM) and Batch before you save — there's no way to undo this from the application once it's done.

Only the Composition (BOM) field is validated on the server; a missing composition shows an error there. Every other field is accepted as entered, unvalidated.

The production order profile

Shows the order's name/ID, status, a Create jobs button, the Composition name, Batch, Date, and Description (if set), a Materials required table (Product, Qty required, Qty sub required — "No materials generated yet" if empty), and a Jobs table (ID, Serial, Qty, Status — "No jobs created yet" if empty).

Generate jobs for an order

  1. From the order's profile, select Create jobs (also available from the toolbar Actions menu).
  2. Enter the Number of jobs.
  3. Optionally adjust Qty per job (defaults to 1).
  4. Select Create jobs.

You see a toast reading "Jobs created successfully" and are returned to the order's profile, where the new jobs appear in the Jobs table. See Jobs for what a job's own profile shows.

Current limitations

  • There is no edit screen for production orders, and no print option, even though the toolbar is set up to offer one.
  • There is no confirm, release, or cancel step before the stock and material requirement records described above are created — saving the order is the confirmation.
  • No status options are set up for production orders, so the Status column and field are normally blank.
  • There is no Delete control for production orders.
