A workstation represents a place where production work happens. A workstation can be linked to a composition and can have its own set of fields, for example roles a person can act in at that workstation.
Before you start
Production is not governed by permission groups. Any member of an organization with the Production module enabled can create, view, and add fields to workstations.
The Workstations list
Open Production > Workstations.
| Column | Notes |
|---|---|
| ID | The workstation's custom ID. |
| Name | The workstation's name. Links to its profile. |
| Status | Normally "-" — see Current limitations. |
Sort defaults to the ID column, A–Z. The toolbar shows a Create icon.
Create a workstation
- From the list, select the Create icon.
- Leave Auto checked to let OCTO Ops assign the Workstation ID, or uncheck it and type your own.
- Enter a Name.
- Optionally enter a Description.
- Select Create workstation.
| Field | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Workstation ID | No | Leave Auto checked, or uncheck it and type your own. |
| Name | Yes | The workstation's name. |
| Description | No | Free text. |
Saving takes you to the Workstations list, not to the new workstation's profile.
The workstation profile
Shows the Name, ID - Status, Description (if set), and a Fields card with its own New field button and a table (Code, Name, Position — "No fields yet" if empty).
Add a field to a workstation
- From the workstation's profile, select New field.
- Optionally enter a Code.
- Enter a Name.
- Optionally enter a Position.
- Choose one or more Action type checkboxes — Operator, QC, Supervisor — a field can be flagged for more than one.
- Optionally enter a Description.
- Select Create field.
You see a toast reading "Field created successfully" and are returned to the workstation's profile.
Current limitations
- There is no edit screen for workstations, and no edit or delete option for a workstation's fields once created.
- No status options are set up for workstations, so the Status column and field are normally blank.
- There is no Delete control for workstations.
