Products

Maintain your product catalogue in OCTO Ops — products, price groups, attributes and brands.

On this page 4

Products is the module for your product catalogue: the products themselves, the price groups you offer to customers, and the attribute definitions you track against products.

What you can do

  • Create and maintain product records, attach vendors to a product, and upload product images and certificates. See Products.
  • Set up group pricing for products and link customers to a price group. See Price Groups.
  • Define product attributes and enter their values against individual products. See Attributes.
  • Keep a list of product brands and see which products use each one. See Brands.

Access and permissions

You need a signed-in OCTO Ops account with a verified email address, an active membership in the selected organization, and the Products module enabled for that organization.

Products is governed by permission groups with four submodules — Products, Price groups, Attributes and Brands. Products, Price groups and Attributes each offer View (all / own), Create and Edit (all / own). Brands also offers Delete (all / own), because it is the only one with a delete screen. "Own" means records you created. Owners and Admins have every permission. Product lists used as pickers in other modules (quotations, orders, purchasing) show every product.

  1. Set up your Brands so they are ready to link to products.
  2. Define your Attributes first, if you want to track them, so they're available to value when you create or edit a product.
  3. Create your Products.
  4. Attach vendors to a product from its profile, once your Vendors exist in Purchasing.
  5. Set up Price Groups once you have products to price, and link customers to them.

Current limitations

  • There is no screen for managing product categories. A category can be picked on the product form, but there's nowhere in the application to create or edit one.
  • No status options are set up for products, so the Status column and field are normally decorative.
  • Products, Price groups and Attributes have no Delete control; only Brands can be deleted.
