A yard is where containers are physically stored. Each yard belongs to a depot and can have its own stack locations, both used to place a container precisely when it arrives.
Before you start
You need the View permission for Yards to see the list and a yard's profile, the Create permission to add a yard, a depot, or a stack location, and the Edit permission to change a yard.
The Yards list
Open Container Depot > Yards. The list is a single page with three tabs, each its own table:
- Yards — Code (links to the yard's profile), Name (links to the yard's profile), Depot, Status.
- Depots — Code, Name, Status.
- Stack locations — Code, Name, Yard, Depot (the yard's depot), Status.
Each tab sorts by its first column, ascending, shows 25 rows at a time by default (with a choice of 10, 25, 50, 100, 150, or all), and has its own search box; there are no other filters.
The toolbar shows a create icon for a new yard, and an Actions menu with Add depot and Add stack location.
Create a yard
- From the Yards list, select the create icon.
- Complete the fields below.
- Select Create yard.
| Field | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Yard name | Yes | The yard's name. |
| Yard code | Yes | A code for the yard. |
| Depot | No | The depot this yard belongs to, chosen from your existing depots. The field carries a red asterisk, but OCTO Ops still accepts the form if you leave it blank. |
| Set as default yard | No | Makes this the yard OCTO Ops offers by default when registering an inward. |
Yard name and code must both be unique. The code and name are both saved in uppercase.
Turning on Set as default yard clears the default status from every other yard. Leaving it off still makes the new yard the default if no yard currently has that status.
On success you see "Yard created successfully" and land on the yard's profile. A missing or duplicate name or code shows field-level errors and "Check your records before submitting this form again." Any other failure shows "Something went wrong!" / "A record already exists with this name or code. Please retry with different values."
Add a depot
- From the Yards list, open the Actions menu and select Add depot.
- Enter the Depot name and Depot code (both required).
- Select Create depot.
Depot name and code have no uniqueness check, unlike a yard's. On success you see "Depot created successfully" and return to the Yards list — there's no profile page for a depot. Any other failure shows "Something went wrong!" / "Check your records before submitting this form again."
Add a stack location
- From the Yards list, open the Actions menu and select Add stack location.
- Complete the fields below.
- Select Create location.
| Field | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Location name | Yes | The stack location's name. |
| Location code | Yes | The stack location's code. |
| Yard | Yes | The yard this stack location belongs to. |
Location name and code have no uniqueness check. On success you see "Location created successfully" and return to the Yards list — there's no profile page for a stack location. Any other failure shows "Something went wrong!" / "Check your records before submitting this form again."
View a yard (the profile page)
Open a yard from the Yards list to see its profile, headed Yard: {code and name}. The left-hand card shows the MSK EDI code (hover for its full name, MSK EDI Yard Code), Depot, Default yard (Yes/No) and Status. To the right are Containers — the inwards into this yard — Voyages, which shows "Not yet available" because voyages aren't linked to yards, and Stocks — the containers still in the yard, with the reservation each is held for. Busy cards list the latest 50 records and say how many there are in all.
Edit a yard
- Open the yard's profile and select the toolbar's Edit icon.
- Update the yard name, yard code, depot, or default-yard switch.
- Select Save changes.
The same required and unique-name/code rules apply, checked against every other yard. On success you see "Yard updated successfully" and return to the profile. Errors are the same as when creating a yard.
How yards, depots, and stack locations are used
A depot groups yards together; you choose a yard's depot when you create the yard, and can change it when you edit the yard.
When you register an inward, you choose the receiving Yard — it defaults to your team's default yard — and, optionally, a Stack location. The stack locations offered depend on the yard you pick, and reload if you pick a different yard. Registering, editing, or deleting inwards and outwards recalculates yard utilization figures automatically.
Current limitations
- Depots and stack locations have no edit screen or profile page once created — check the details carefully before you save them.
- A yard, depot, or stack location can't be deleted.
- The Delete permission for Yards has no effect — nothing in this submodule can be deleted.
